The CfAO Professional Development Program (PDP) is a flexible, multi-year program for scientists and engineers at the early stages of their careers, with a primary focus on graduate students. All participants in the PDP attend a 4-day teaching workshop held in March 2008. (First time participants also attend a 1-day introduction, held in Nov. 2007.) Participants work on a design team during and after the workshop, continue developing skills through mini-workshops and expert consultation, and put their new teaching skills into practice. The practical teaching experience takes place in “teaching labs” — CfAO-affiliated educational programs or courses. PDP participants leave the program as highly trained, innovative, and reflective scientist/engineer educators.
The 2007—08 PDP will include 4 workshops:
1. Re-Thinking Science Learning & Teaching (Re-SLT) - new participants, 1-day workshop, offered in Maui and Santa Cruz
2. Experiencing and Applying Inquiry in Science Learning & Teaching I & II (X-SLT) - all participants, 4-day workshop, Maui

- Attend the 1-day Re-SLT Workshop in Maui, Nov. 16, 2007 or Santa Cruz, Nov. 30, 2007
- Apply to the PDP (applications due Dec. 4, 2007)
- Attend the 4-day X-SLT I Workshop in Maui, March 13 – 17, 2008
- Attend the 1/2-day Facilitating Learners Engaged in Inquiry Workshop in Maui or Santa Cruz, May 2008
- Teach!
Returning Participant Pathway
