Vinya Agluba, University of
Hawaii, Manoa
Vinya Agluba was born and raised in Philippines, then immigrated to Hawaii with her family in 2003. She is now a senior student in University of Hawai’i at Manoa pursuing a Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering. She is interested in electronics, and solid state devices. Just recently, she took an antennas course and enjoyed it too. She likes to explore and learn new things. (Top) |
Michael
Cooney,
University of Hawaii, Manoa
Michael Cooney is currently a senior in Electrical Engineering at the University of Hawaii - Manoa. He is from Kona on the Big Island. His research interests include development of electronics for scientific and end-user use. He works in the Instrument Development Labratory within the Physics department at UH-Manoa doing just that. His current projects involve high energy neutrino detection and a portable audio player. He intends to persue a masters in EE from UH-Manoa in January. (Top) |

University of Hawaii, Hilo
Michelle Darrah is a native to Panama City, Florida where she started her schooling at Rollins College. She spent a semester at the Biosphere 2 in Arizona courtesy of Columbia University to study astrophysics in a hands-on environment. Afterwards she returned to Rollins for an interim semester until she could find a school more suited to her studies, which is how she came to be a student of UH Hilo. Now at the base of Mauna Kea she is pursuing her undergraduate degree in astronomy/physics and plans to graduate in May of 2006. (Top) |

Dement, University of Hawaii, Hilo
Denny Kaniela Dement is a junior at the University of Hawaii at Hilo majoring in Astronomy. He enjoys camping, hiking, reading, and any water sports, especially surfing. His interest in Astronomy comes from the spirit of discovery, unveiling the secrets of the Universe for the benefit of all. (Top) |
Justin
DiPaola-Allen, University of Hawaii, Hilo
Justin DiPaola-Allen was born and raised in Overland Park, Kansas. He attended school in the Shawnee Mission School District where he lettered all four years in academics. His interest and ability in math enabled him to take pre-algebra in the sixth grade. He attend Harvard University between his junior and senior year of high school where he developed an interest in astronomy. He was captain of the USFIRST robotics team in high school. He is currently pursuing both interests in math and astronomy at the University of Hawaii at Hilo. His plans for the future include attending graduate school for mathematical physics. (Top) |

Z Knight, University of Hawaii, Hilo
Robert Knight is currently studying astrophysics at the University of Hawai'i at Hilo, and plans to go on to graduate school in cosmology, and to discover the unknown mysteries of the universe. He also enjoys appearing frequently in dramatic or humorous theatrical productions. (Top) |
Paul
Linden,
University of Hawaii, Manoa
Paul Linden is currently a senior in the Electrical Engineering program at UH Manoa. He is from Hilo and lovse to hike, dive, and camp on the Big Island. Paul works in the machine shop at the Institute for Astronomy. This has given him a lot of practical hands-on training in a professional environment. He plans to continue on to graduate school and most likely in biomedical engineering. Paul's senior design project has to do with hear auscultation, or listing to the heart with electronic instruments. This field interests him greatly and he may pursue it at the graduate level. David Luis was born in Hilo and grew up in Puna on the Big Island of Hawaii. He is currently at the University of Hawaii at Manoa working towards receiving his Bachelors of Science in electrical engineering next spring. David enjoys running around the university track, finding applications for things learned, and exploring through questioning. After graduation, he hopes to pursue a career in an industry related to space exploration and technology. (Top) |

Mark Nishimura was born in Hilo, and graduated from Hilo High School in 2002. He is currently attending California Lutheran University and is majoring in mathematics, with a minor in physics. Blake
Stene, Hawaii Community College
Blake Stene was born in Kealakekua on the Big Island. In high school he became very interested in electronics and obtained his amateur radio license. Shortly after getting his amateur radio license he volunteered at the Kona Community Hospital as a radio operator to help provide communication in emergencies. After high school, Blake began working at the Kona International Airport as a porter and attending Hawaii Community College. He is looking forward to working in the electronics field and getting some hands on experience at his internship site this summer. (Top) |
