Retina Layers
The three images are of a retinal location that is about 1.5 mm from the fovea. Each panel shows a different optical section of the retina, starting with the nerve fiber layer, and a blood vessel that runs across the retinal surface. The second panel reveals a second blood vessel and other capillaries that run beneath the nerve fibers. The final panel shows the mosaic of cone photoreceptors, which lie about 300 microns below the retinal surface. The scale bar on the figure represents about 100 microns.
